Sexting and Internet Safety

Dear Parent /Carer

Nude Selfies – Sexting/E-safety

The National Crime Agency’s Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) receive on average one report a day of a child protection issue relating to sexting. This highlights a need for raising awareness amongst parents and carers so that they understand the issue and are able to have a conversation with their children.

The South West Grid for Learning have a resource entitled ‘So You Got Naked Online?’ which provides practical information to young people and their parents/carers and teachers about what to do following a sexting incident. http://swgfl.org.uk/products-services/esafety/resources/so-you-got-naked-online/content/sexting-toolkit

The resource as well as Childnet’s prevention resource ‘Picture This’ is part of the UK Safer Internet Centre sexting toolkit.http://www.childnet.com/resources/picture-this

CEOP also offers useful information on counter-extremism should you wish to take a look at this. There is also a useful pack for parents at www.parentsprotect.co.uk if your child does get or has got into trouble online.
