General Questions

  • What are the times of the provision day?
    Our academic day operates sessions between 0900-1630. Please allow a window for collection; collection can be between 0900-0930 and a fifteen minute window for afternoon collections and returns. This is due to varying traffic conditions. Extra mentoring sessions outside of these hours can be provided on agreement.

    AM/Morning Sessions 0900-1300
    PM/Afternoon sessions 1400-1630
    Full day sessions 0900-1600
    We can offer 2 full days or 4 morning sessions or 3 morning sessions and 2 afternoons.

    Who do I call to report absence?
    Call our office line on 07341 564377.

    Do I need to provide lunch for my child?
    No, your child does not need money. Lunch is provided, if you would prefer to provide a packed lunch this is acceptable.

    Does my child need to wear uniform?
    No, but they must be dressed appropriately for a professional learning environment.

    Will my child get homework?
    It is not our policy to set homework or expect work to be completed at home. Pupils accessing our online English and Maths learning programs can work on these from home if they wish. Older students can access their ASDAN Short Courses, which are available online via the ASDAN e-portfolio system.

  • Who holds the responsibility for the student once they are placed at Education 1st?
    The commissioning body holds ultimate responsibility. Education 1st wilfully support and safeguard all students in line with our policies.

    Does Education 1st provide science education?
    Currently Education 1st does not provide discrete science lessons. Our focus is on English, Maths, PHSE and life skills, along with personal and social development.

    Which KS4 English and Maths specifications does Education 1st work with?
    For Secondary and Post 16 students – aged 13-19 years For older students attending for longer periods of time we can offer accredited ASDAN Short Courses, including English and Maths. Because courses are multi-level, the focus is on completing challenges and skills development according to individual ability, although the courses are intended for learners who are working at Entry level 3 to Level 1.
    ASDAN E-portfolio option
    All ASDAN Short Courses are available online via the ASDAN e-portfolio system. This online platform allows learners to complete their chosen Short Courses online by completing challenges, recording skills development and uploading evidence.
    Education 1st can work with an English and/or Maths specifications identified by the commissioning body. Details must be provided at referral and an agreement about how this will be delivered agreed between commissioner and provider(s) at the start of the placement.

    How often does Education 1st meet with the commissioning body?
    We expect termly reviews to be organised by the commissioning body. The review will be student centred and can take a multi-agency approach.

    How will the commissioning body be informed about attendance data?
    We report all non attendance to the commissioning body

    What is the time-scale for provision to get started?
    We will process referrals in a timely manner dependent on current placements, availability and waiting lists. However, the placement cannot begin until all referral documentation has been received and the admissions process is fully completed.
